The National Resistance Front confirmed the killing of one of its commanders.

The front also claimed that he had taken down three Taliban members before being killed—a claim that has yet to be independently verified.

News of Mirwais Khan's death was first reported on Sunday, October 18, by Taliban-affiliated media outlets. Those outlets stated that he had been killed around 3 a.m. as a result of a targeted operation. However, conflicting reports emerged regarding the exact location of the incident; some sources pointed to Andarab district in Baghlan province, while others identified the mountains of Parian district in Panjshir province as the site of his death. The two areas share a border.

In its statement, the National Resistance Front expressed condolences to Mirwais Khan's family and members of the front, paid tribute to the sacrifices of the group's fighters, and emphasized the ongoing struggle against the Taliban. In the days leading up to his death, Mirwais Khan had also posted a video on social media speaking of his presence in the Hindu Kush mountains and his continued battle against the Taliban. Following the video's release, Taliban-affiliated media published images of his body, in which a rifle was visible in his hand.

The publication of images of Mirwais Khan's body on social media elicited a range of reactions. Some users opposed to the Taliban praised his stand against the group, while certain Taliban supporters expressed satisfaction over his death. Supporters of Mirwais Khan, meanwhile, claimed that he had fought the Taliban until his last bullet.

According to confirmed information from a reliable source, Mirwais Khan was the nephew of Saleh Mohammad Registani, the general operational commander of the military staff of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan. Registani had previously announced, on July 21, that he had returned to Afghanistan to continue the war against the Taliban. Prior to that, he had also posted a video on social media announcing his presence in a mountainous region.

The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan confirmed on Tuesday, October 20, the killing of Mirwais Khan, one of its commanders, in a clash with the Taliban in the Hindu Kush mountains. According to the front, Mirwais Khan had engaged Taliban forces in the foothills of the Hindu Kush two days earlier and continued fighting until his final moments.
