International Nurses Day; EU stresses support for female health workers in Afghanistan

The bloc today (Saturday, May 12) marked International Nurses Day by emphasizing that women form a vital part of Afghanistan's health workforce and play a role in saving human lives.


In this message, the European Union referred to nurses as "unsung heroes" and stressed that women constitute a critical segment of the health workforce—those who save lives and build the country's future.


The European Union's statement noted that the institution supports training and empowerment programs for nurses to improve the quality of health services for all.


International Nurses Day arrives in Afghanistan at a time when the country's health system faces serious challenges due to the Taliban's restrictions on women's education and work in the health sector.


International organizations warn that the continuation of these restrictions could lead to a shortage of health workers, reduced access for women to medical services, and a further deterioration of the health situation in Afghanistan.

On International Nurses Day, the European Union says it supports the training and professional development of nurses in Afghanistan.
