Russia begins construction of small nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan

He described this project as the world’s first exported model of this scale, implemented with guarantees from Rosatom, and called it a significant step in the strategic cooperation between Moscow and Tashkent.

According to Manturov, the design and site preparation are being handled by Russian institutions, with main construction set to start next year. He also expressed Russia’s readiness to negotiate the construction of a larger power plant if Uzbekistan decides to pursue it.

According to the Interfax news agency, Denis Manturov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, announced that the construction of a low-capacity nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan has begun, with its first units expected to become operational by 2029.
