Afghanistan's mission in Geneva: Switzerland rejects deportation of migrants based on ethnicity

The representation, in a published statement, said that following the publication of a report in the media outlet “NZZ” about the potential deportation of Pashtun migrants, it had sought clarification from Swiss authorities.

The Swiss Migration Office, in response, emphasized that “no changes have been made to this country’s asylum policy based on ethnicity, particularly regarding Afghanistan’s Pashtuns.”

The statement further noted that Switzerland clarified that the media report was based on internal documents that merely examined hypothetical scenarios regarding the return of migrants.

Quoting Swiss authorities, Afghanistan’s representation wrote: “We are sorry that this inaccurate report has caused concern and uncertainty among your country’s citizens in Switzerland.”

Afghanistan’s representation in Geneva has announced that the Swiss Federal Office for Migration has described reports about the deportation of Afghan migrants based on ethnicity as “completely baseless” and has rejected them.
