Keir Starmer resigns as Labour Party leader and British Prime Minister

With the process of selecting a new Labour Party leader beginning on June 8, the intra-party competition to determine Starmer's successor will enter a new phase. It is said that Andy Burnham, the former Mayor of Manchester and an influential political figure in the party, is one of the serious contenders in this race.


In explaining his performance, Starmer stated that he took over the party leadership at a time when, according to him, the Labour Party was in a critical state politically, financially, and morally. He also claimed to have rebuilt the party's position and overcome challenges such as antisemitism within the party.


In recent weeks, pressures on Starmer to step down had intensified, and these pressures grew even stronger following Andy Burnham's entry into Parliament. Reports indicate that Burnham, after resigning from his mayoral position, has entered the race for party leadership and has gained the support of a portion of the party's members.


This leadership change is occurring at a time when Britain has witnessed numerous shifts at the prime ministerial level over the past decade, and this trend could lead to the formation of the seventh prime minister of the country in the last ten years.
