Ukraine peace talks continue; Putin envoy heads to US

This trip comes after consultations between the United States and the leaders of Europe and Ukraine. According to this source, a trilateral contact with the Ukrainian side is not on the agenda.

The United States and Ukraine began a new round of negotiations on December 19, and Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security Council, announced that Kyiv has agreed with its American and European partners to continue cooperation. At the same time, Politico has reported that talks between the United States and Russia are scheduled for December 20 and 21.

European leaders have emphasized that any potential territorial concessions by Ukraine would only be possible with strong security guarantees, including the establishment of a multinational force led by Europe. At the Berlin meeting, there was also emphasis on the need to maintain Ukraine's military capacity at around 800,000 troops.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, after talks with representatives of the Trump administration, said that the issue of territory is one of the most difficult matters in peace negotiations; however, he expressed hope that the United States would help achieve a compromise. He added that Ukraine is prepared to forgo NATO membership in exchange for security guarantees.

Reuters, citing a Russian source, has reported that Kirill Dmitriev, Vladimir Putin's envoy, is traveling to Miami for talks with Steve Witkoff, the White House envoy, and Jared Kushner.
