Taliban distribute bachelor's and master's degrees to 600 Taliban after religious exam

According to Ahmadullah Rashtin, a representative of the ministry, the mullahs were deemed eligible to receive these certificates after passing a specialized examination. Rashtin explained that "Aaliyah" is equivalent to a bachelor's degree, and "Aalamiyah" is equivalent to a master's degree.
Abdul Zaher Siddiqi, one of the officials of the Taliban Higher Education Institute in Farah, stated that this process is being carried out under the directives of senior Taliban authorities, and holders of these certificates can pursue higher academic levels, including doctorates, or secure government positions.
This move by the Taliban, similar to what was previously implemented in Kabul and other provinces, has faced significant criticism.
University professors have warned that granting such certificates without adhering to academic standards will plunge the country's higher education system into a serious crisis.
Concerns have also grown regarding the transformation of universities into centers for Taliban ideological training, as the group has sidelined many qualified professors and appointed individuals loyal to them in academic positions.
The Taliban Ministry of Higher Education has initiated the process of distributing religious academic certificates under the new titles "Aaliyah" and "Aalamiyah" to 600 local mullahs in Farah province.
