Meeting of Motaqi and Iraqchi; Economic and security cooperation while the Taliban flag was absent.

According to a Taliban statement, in this meeting, both sides emphasized the gradual development of relations and the importance of preserving the dignity of Afghan migrants.
Based on published images, despite the official invitation and high-level talks, signs of Iran’s diplomatic caution were evident on the sidelines of the meeting; Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in its official arrangements, refrained from displaying the Taliban flag, a practice that was reversed during Araghchi’s previous visit to Kabul.
The statement noted that Muttaqi requested facilities for Afghan prisoners in Iran and the “dignified” return of migrants. Araghchi, referring to Iran’s security concerns along the Afghan border, stressed the need for intelligence cooperation.
This comes as the Taliban and Iran maintain good diplomatic and commercial relations, with bilateral trade reaching four billion dollars; however, signs of full recognition of the Taliban in Iran’s diplomatic behavior are still absent.
Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, during an official visit to Tehran, discussed security issues, migrants, water resources, and bilateral cooperation with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister.
