A number of civil society activists in Canada are holding a protest rally.

This protest gathering took place on Saturday, June 20, in support of the women of Afghanistan, and participants expressed concern over the situation of women under Taliban rule, calling for greater attention from the global community to their conditions.


Protest rallies had previously been held in Canada as well; however, the organizers say that this event was more extensive compared to previous gatherings, with a greater number of human rights activists, women, and women's rights supporters in attendance.


The protesters emphasized that this gathering was held in response to the Taliban’s restrictive policies against women and girls, particularly the recent events in Herat and the crackdown on protesting women.


The participants also expressed their support for the women of Afghanistan and called on the global community and international institutions to show a serious response to the current situation of women in Afghanistan and to take practical actions to defend their rights.


The protesters stressed that continuing such protests is essential for reflecting and keeping alive the voice of Afghan women on the global stage, and that diplomatic pressure on the Taliban must be intensified.

In continuation of global solidarity with the women of Afghanistan, a number of women, civil society activists, and human rights defenders gathered in the city of Calgary, Canada, in front of the city hall building to hold a protest rally.
