Earlier, after the discovery of the first five bodies, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced that this event clearly illustrates the heavy toll of dangerous and irregular journeys. The agency also stated that it would provide support to the affected families alongside its partner organizations.


Yesterday, the bodies of 14 other Afghan citizens, who had gone missing during an unofficial trip to Iran in the plains of Nimruz, were found in the Gard Laloy area of Chahar Burjak district in this province.


These individuals were part of a group of 19 people who had set out from unofficial routes in recent weeks to reach Iran.


Videos received from the scene show several of the bodies buried under piles of sand and dust. In parts of these images, it can be seen that the victims, in their final hours of life, had used their clothing to create a makeshift canopy to shield themselves from the intense heat, and several of the bodies are located next to those same canopies.


Sources say these citizens lost their lives due to extreme heat, thirst, and the harsh conditions of the route. Gol Mohammad Qudrat, spokesperson for the Taliban's security command in Nimruz, had previously stated that these travelers became trapped in harsh weather and environmental conditions, resulting in their deaths from thirst and the difficulties of the journey.

Richard Bennett, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, in response to the deaths of 19 Afghan citizens in the deserts of Nimruz while attempting to reach Iran, called for action to address the root causes of high-risk migrations.
