The Afghan Media Support Organization held a protest rally in Paris.

This journalists' support organization today (Saturday, December 19) held a protest gathering in the city of Paris in response to the alarming situation of Afghan journalists in Pakistan and Iran, with the aim of drawing the attention of media support institutions and French authorities to expedite their refugee processing.

The Afghanistan Media Support Organization says that dozens of Afghan journalists residing in Pakistan and Iran, along with their families, are facing an unprecedented crisis. According to this organization, the refugee applications of some have been rejected, the files of others remain unanswered for a long time after interviews, and a group are still awaiting invitations for interviews.

This organization has warned that the prolonged and uncertain wait has exposed the lives of Afghan journalists to serious risks.

According to this organization, Afghan journalists in Pakistan are confronting severe economic problems, unemployment, psychological pressures, constant harassment and abuse by police, detention, and threats of forced deportation—a situation that has driven some to the point of attempting suicide.

This organization has added that journalists who have been returned to Kabul due to forced deportation or necessity are facing serious security threats, pursuit, detention, disappearance, and other human rights violations in Afghanistan. According to this organization, this situation not only endangers the lives of Afghan journalists but also severely threatens the future of their families and children.

The organization's statement reads: "Amid all this suffering, France remains the last hope for many Afghan journalists—a hope that can save their lives and preserve their human dignity. Approximately 150 Afghan journalists in Iran and Pakistan are awaiting French visas, and in just the past week, six Afghan journalists have been forcibly deported from Pakistan to Afghanistan."

The Afghanistan Media Support Organization has urged relevant French institutions and international organizations to expedite the review of Afghan journalists' refugee files without delay, end the prolonged and uncertain waiting period after interviews, save the lives of Afghan journalists at risk and their families, process the files based on humanitarian emergency conditions, and facilitate their transfer to safe countries, especially France.

This organization, citing the 1951 Geneva Convention, has emphasized that the French government must grant refugee status to Afghan journalists while considering human dignity.

The organization has warned that silence in the face of this situation means the death of Afghan journalists, and any delay could lead to irreparable human consequences. This organization has stressed that their demand for Afghan journalists is "justice and the right to life."

The Afghanistan Media Support Organization states that Afghan journalists residing in Pakistan and Iran, who are awaiting French humanitarian refugee status, are enduring intensely abnormal, exhausting, unfair, and dangerous conditions.
