UN: Around 2.8 million Afghans deported from Iran and Pakistan in 2025

In the annual report of this agency, published on Friday, 28 Qaws, it is stated that approximately 67 percent of these returns were carried out forcibly, and the rate of expulsion of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan has increased by 62 percent compared to the previous year.

Based on the findings of this report, the largest wave of migrant returns was recorded in the month of July; a time when, at the peak of the expulsion process from Iran, approximately 373,000 people were forced to leave the country.

The High Commissioner for Refugees has once again warned that many of the returnees, especially women and girls, face serious security and protection threats given the current human rights situation in Afghanistan under Taliban rule.

The report continues by stating that, despite these concerns, the process of expelling Afghan refugees from Tajikistan has also continued this year, with at least 1,700 people returned to Afghanistan from that country.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has announced that during the year 2025 AD, approximately 2.8 million Afghan citizens have been returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan. According to this report, nearly 1.8 million people from Iran and about 930,000 from Pakistan have been expelled.
