Belgium on the verge of recognizing the state of Palestine

Maxime Prévot, the Belgian Foreign Minister, wrote in a message on X on Tuesday, 11 Sunbula, that Belgium, in addition to recognizing Palestine, will also impose severe sanctions on Israel.


He stated that any form of antisemitism or glorification of terrorism by Hamas supporters in Belgium will be condemned with greater severity.


The Belgian Foreign Minister declared that his country has made this decision to exert pressure on the Israeli government and Hamas terrorists.


He said that in light of the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and Israel's violence, which constitutes a violation of international laws, Belgium has made a resolute decision in line with its international commitments, including those related to preventing any risk of genocide.


It is worth noting that so far, 147 countries, including 75 percent of the United Nations member states, have recognized Palestine as an independent state.

The Belgian Foreign Ministry announced that the country will recognize Palestine at the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly.
