Afghan Shura Councils Condemn Pakistani Attacks in Helmand and Kunar

This council, on (Friday, October 2), issued a statement calling on the United Nations and the international community to take necessary actions to protect civilians, especially women and children. The statement emphasizes that the people of Afghanistan, after decades of war, deserve to live in peace, security, and with dignity and a future aligned with their own aspirations.

Pakistan targeted areas in Helmand and Kunar with airstrikes in the early hours of Thursday, October 1. According to a report from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), these strikes resulted in the deaths of at least 10 civilians—most of them children—and injuries to 9 others.

The Coordination Council of Afghanistan's Political and Consular Representations stated in its declaration that it explicitly regards these strikes as a violation of Afghanistan's sovereignty and international humanitarian laws, and it has called for the international community's attention to their consequences.

In response, Pakistan has stated that the strikes targeted positions belonging to "terrorists" and locations where their munitions were stored. Pakistani officials have also claimed that 22 "terrorists" were killed during the operation.

The Coordination Council of Afghanistan's Political and Consular Representations has condemned Pakistan's recent airstrikes on areas in the provinces of Helmand and Kunar, deeming them a blatant violation of Afghanistan's sovereignty and international humanitarian law.
