Predicting the Fall of Ahmad Zia Siraj: The Countdown to the End of Taliban Rule Has Begun

Saraj wrote on his X page on Sunday that the recent movements of the Freedom Front, the Homeland Brigades Front, and the United Afghanistan Front in various parts of the country are signs of the beginning of the process to end what he called the "Taliban tyranny."


He considered the widespread awakening of the people and the growing public demand for freedom and liberation from the current situation to be the most important factor in the formation and expansion of these movements.


The former head of national security also wrote that during the republican era, officials at the time had repeatedly warned about the consequences of the Taliban's return; however, many citizens viewed those warnings as efforts to preserve power and personal interests of the officials at the time.


According to Saraj, now, after five years of Taliban rule, the performance, decisions, and decrees of this group have revealed its true nature to the people, and there is no longer any need to explain the Taliban. He added that the people have concluded that Afghanistan is moving further toward darkness every day and that hope for the future is diminishing.


Saraj predicted that in the near future, more movements will emerge to end Taliban rule. He also believes that even if there were no armed opposition groups, the continuation of the Taliban's domestic and foreign policies could ultimately lead to the group's defeat and collapse.


Referring to the experience of authoritarian regimes in contemporary Afghan history, he wrote that those regimes also considered themselves permanent and invincible; but they ultimately fell.


The former head of national security emphasized that the process of the Taliban's fall has begun; however, this path will not be easy and will require time.


At the end, he called on political currents to set aside their differences, accept each other, and, by learning from past experiences, cooperate for the future.


In the past two weeks, the scope of activities by anti-Taliban fronts has increased. The Homeland Brigades Front announced its existence on July 17 with an attack on the center of the Yaftal Payan district in Badakhshan province. The Freedom Front also began a multi-day operation in the Zebak district on August 23, and the United Afghanistan Front has recently announced the start of a new round of its military activities.

Ahmad Zia Saraj, the former head of Afghanistan's National Security, referring to the increased activities of anti-Taliban fronts, said that the process of ending the second term of this group's rule has begun, and in his view, the countdown to the fall of the Taliban has started.
