Sami Sadat: The Taliban leader sees media and telecommunications as a threat to her rule

This reaction came after several officials from internet service provider companies in Kabul announced to the media that the Taliban has instructed the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority to cut off citizens' wireless fiber optic internet.


Sadat wrote in a message on X network that with the increasing internal divisions within the Taliban and the growth of public discontent, Hibatullah Akhundzada sees people's connection to the outside world as a threat to his control.


According to Sadat, restrictions on the internet and media are not merely a security measure, but part of a plan to create a "closed state" in Afghanistan. He warned that severing Afghanistan's connection to the global internet would turn the country into a "dark spot in the heart of Asia"; a situation that could pave the way for the growth of terrorism, extremism, and drug trafficking.


In recent weeks, reports have emerged about the Taliban's increasing pressure on media outlets and journalists. Among them, the Taliban forces' raid on the Mobi Group office, the arrest of journalists, and the siege of TOLOnews office have been cited as incidents that have raised concerns among organizations defending freedom of expression.


The head of the United Afghanistan Front called on Afghan citizens inside and outside the country to unite and act cohesively against what he called the "isolation of Afghanistan." He emphasized that continued silence and disunity will only strengthen tyranny and warned that the collapse and isolation of Afghanistan could extend security threats beyond the country's borders.
