Noor to Taliban: If the new generation fails, the veterans will re-enter the fray

Noor wrote on Sunday, October 1, in a message on the social network X: "In the culture of the Khorasan chivalry, there is no such thing as pledging allegiance." He also stressed that surrendering is incompatible with their chivalrous traditions.

In another part of his message, the politician, referring to past struggles in Afghanistan, said the country has been liberated many times; yet in the end, others have reaped the benefits of those struggles. According to him, this time it is better for the new generation to strive for the country's freedom; however, if they fail, the seasoned figures will step back into the arena. Noor described these individuals using phrases such as "veterans of the Shahin Changal, leopard-armed, and lion-like."

He went on to emphasize that the Islamic Society of Afghanistan and its supporters will not become proxy forces for any foreign country. This part of Noor's remarks comes amid rumors circulating about ties between some anti-Taliban fronts and Pakistan, including receiving support from that country.

The Taliban has previously claimed that the Freedom Front and the National Resistance Front, with Pakistan's backing, carried out sporadic attacks against the group in the provinces of Nuristan and Badakhshan. In his recent message, Noor implicitly implicated some armed anti-Taliban groups in spreading rumors about his contacts with the Taliban.

This reaction came after a letter circulated on social media that was attributed to Shahabuddin Delawar, head of the Taliban's Contact Commission. The letter claimed that a number of politicians from the former government, including Atta Mohammad Noor, are in contact with the Taliban and are working to return to Afghanistan.

Atta Mohammad Noor has rejected these claims and reiterated his opposition to pledging allegiance to the Taliban. Nevertheless, the Taliban has yet to respond regarding the authenticity of the circulated letter or the claims made in it.

Atta Mohammad Noor, a prominent anti-Taliban figure, has denied any secret contacts with the group or efforts to pledge allegiance or surrender to it. He says that if fresh forces in the fight against the Taliban fail to achieve results, seasoned figures will re-enter the fray at the appropriate time.
