Pakistan claims: Swat suicide bomber was an Afghan citizen

The explosion occurred on Sunday, August 1, near the entrance to the Kabul Police District in the Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, at a time when a protest rally against rising insecurity in the area was being held simultaneously.


Fida Hussain, a senior Swat police official, told Reuters that among the victims of the attack were five police officers and eight civilians. He added that the 14th fatality was likely the suicide bomber himself.


According to Pakistani officials, the attacker's head was found at the explosion site, and initial examinations have shown that he was an Afghan citizen; however, no further details or documents confirming this claim have been provided as of yet.


Meanwhile, the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement.

Pakistani officials say preliminary investigations into the recent suicide bombing in the Swat region indicate that the attacker was likely an Afghan citizen. Media in the country, quoting officials, have reported that at least 14 people were killed and 18 others wounded in the incident.
