Taliban 'arrest' several people following clashes in Paryan district of Panjshir

The Taliban have not yet responded regarding this matter, and the identities of those detained remain unknown.


According to reports, security tensions in the Parian area have intensified over the past few months. This situation began after a Taliban Ranger vehicle was set on fire in Kojan village on December 17, 2025, and was followed by an attack on a Taliban outpost at the Parian Mosque in April 2026, in which two Taliban members were killed. Additionally, sources reported the killing of Mullah Gul Haidar, the Taliban's deputy intelligence chief, in Kojan village.


Local residents say that in the wake of these events, the Taliban have detained a number of civilians from Kojan village, and there are reports of mistreatment and torture. According to sources, the Taliban, claiming that armed individuals are hiding in the Samhar Valley area, have conducted several large-scale operations in the region.


Local sources also say that on the night of May 5, Taliban forces entered operations from two axes; however, they encountered resistance and retreated with casualties. According to these sources, three Taliban fighters were killed and one was wounded. At present, the security situation in Parian is highly militarized, and residents are expressing concern over the increase in arrests and restrictions.


Previously, reports of heavy clashes in the Kohsar and Kor Pitab areas had also surfaced, said to have lasted for several hours, with the Taliban deploying hundreds of reinforcements to the region. Despite these developments, precise casualty figures have not yet been released, and no side has officially commented on the details of the clashes.

Local sources in Panjshir province say that on Thursday, May 7, armed clashes occurred between Taliban forces and unidentified individuals in parts of the Parian district. According to these sources, following this incident, the Taliban raided Kojan village on Friday, May 8, and arrested at least seven people.
