Pakistani security sources: Border attack repelled, several Taliban members killed

According to the sources, details of the attack, which is said to have been planned, are unclear, and this action has been described by Pakistani security sources as a "retaliatory operation" in response to the attempt to enter the country's territory and carry out aggressive actions.


Meanwhile, it has been reported that sporadic gunfire between Afghan Taliban forces and Pakistani security forces continues, and Pakistani forces in the border areas are on full alert. This incident comes as tensions between the two sides have once again escalated after about three months of relative calm. Last week, at least 24 people were killed following an attack on a police station in northwestern Pakistan.


Pakistan also announced on Thursday that its air force had targeted 10 locations in Afghanistan—areas that, according to Islamabad, were used for launching and storing drones. Additionally, according to reports, Pakistan carried out airstrikes on Monday in the border areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan, in which, according to Pakistani officials, 28 militants were killed. However, Taliban officials said that three civilians had lost their lives in the nighttime attacks.


Tensions between Islamabad and Kabul continue over the increase in insecurity in Pakistan's western and northwestern regions. Pakistan accuses the Afghan Taliban of harboring armed Islamist groups that carry out cross-border attacks—a charge the Taliban denies, viewing the insecurity as Pakistan's internal problem. The two sides also witnessed the most intense clashes in recent years in February.


According to reports, more than 400 people were killed in March following a Pakistani airstrike on Kabul. The Taliban had said that a drug rehabilitation center was targeted in that attack; however, Islamabad rejected this claim and stated that it had precisely targeted "military facilities and terrorist support infrastructure."



Pakistani security sources told Reuters on Friday, September 24, that the country's forces had thwarted an attempt at a border incursion in the Gulistan area, during which several Afghan Taliban members were killed. Taliban officials have not yet commented on the matter.
