European Parliament member calls for action against violators of Afghan women's rights

Carrión, on Thursday, November 4, during a session of the European Parliament's Petitions Committee, also expressed concern over the rising cases of women's rights violations in Europe. She emphasized that European countries must rigorously enforce their laws and not allow individuals who seek to impose extremist views and ideologies on women to operate in these countries.

This European Parliament representative also criticized the European Union's continued political and economic relations with regimes that violate women's rights, questioning the normalization of contacts with Taliban representatives. According to her, the European Union's declared positions in support of women's rights must align with the decisions and practical actions of this institution.

She warned that merely condemning the restrictions and suppression of women in Afghanistan is not enough, and the European Union must adopt a consistent and firm policy against similar cases of women's rights violations in other countries around the world. Carrión added that indifference toward misogyny and extremism will expose women in Afghanistan and Europe to even greater threats.

This Spanish representative, in part of her remarks, accused the Taliban of using religious ideology to dominate and suppress women, viewing this group's interpretation of Sharia as a means to justify violence against women. She also called for the expulsion of individuals who, according to her, are attempting to impose such behaviors and views in European countries, and for their return to their countries of origin.

Margarita de la Pisa Carrión, Spain's representative in the European Parliament, criticized the Taliban's policies toward Afghan women, stating that by depriving women of education and work, this group has turned them into second-class citizens and violated their fundamental rights. She called on the European Union to take concrete action against the perpetrators of these human rights violations.
