German Interior Minister: Deportation of Criminal Afghan Refugees Will Continue

Alexander Dobrindt, on Sunday evening, told ARD television in response to critics that those who oppose deporting these individuals must explain whether Germany's security situation would improve or not if they remain in the country.


He also noted that Germany is in contact with Taliban officials on this matter. According to published statistics, at least 138 Afghan criminal refugees have been returned from Germany to Afghanistan over the past year.


Reports indicate that the German government has reached an agreement with the Taliban that facilitates the implementation of regular deportations. In return, the Taliban have been permitted to send two diplomats to Germany.


However, human rights organizations and a number of critical politicians stress that, given Afghanistan's current situation under Taliban rule, the country is not a suitable place to return refugees to.

Despite the growing criticism of deporting Afghan refugees with criminal records to Afghanistan, Germany's Interior Minister has emphasized that this policy will be pursued with determination. He considers these individuals a threat to his country's security.
