National Independence Front claims responsibility for explosion at Taliban checkpoint in Herat

The front claims that as a result of this attack, one Taliban member was killed and three others from the group were wounded. The National Front for Independence has also emphasized that it will continue its attacks against Taliban positions.


Local sources in Herat had previously reported an explosion at a Taliban security checkpoint in the Jakan area. Witnesses said that in this incident, at least five people, including a passing woman, were wounded, and four Taliban members were among the injured. According to sources, the wounded were taken to a hospital after the explosion.


Jakan, in the eighth district of Herat city, is located in a busy area about two kilometers from the provincial governor's office. Event witnesses described the cause of the explosion as a magnetic mine; however, no independent information has been released regarding the exact number of casualties and the main cause of the incident.


The Taliban has also confirmed the occurrence of the explosion but has provided a different account. Masoud Husseini, spokesman for the Taliban police command in Herat, said the explosion occurred at one of the "security booths" and that preliminary investigations indicate the incident happened unintentionally, following the explosion of "ammunition present at the site." He stated that in this incident, the security booth was damaged, but no civilians were harmed.



The National Front for the Independence of Afghanistan has claimed responsibility for an explosion at a Taliban checkpoint in the Jakan area, part of the eighth district of Herat city. The front stated that around 12 p.m. on Monday, October 6, its forces targeted the Taliban checkpoint using a hand grenade.
