Russian media: Moscow attack attackers were trained in "Türkiye and Afghanistan"

According to a report published on Friday, December 19, a source in the military court of Russia's Western District confirmed this to the TASS news agency. According to this source, all the attackers had received special training, and one of the defendants, named Shamsuddin Fariduni, demonstrated high proficiency in shooting during interrogation.

The TASS report states that Fariduni was supposed to be transferred from Turkey to Afghanistan to join ISIS-Khorasan; however, due to the closure of winter routes, he was involved in the Crocus attack. He was responsible for scouting the location, gathering the attackers, procuring the vehicle, and obtaining the weapons.

According to Russian judicial authorities, the organizers of this attack had promised the perpetrators a payment of one million rubles, and after the attack, they moved toward Ukraine. This attack, which occurred on April 3, left 149 dead and more than 600 wounded.

ISIS had claimed responsibility for this attack; likewise, judicial proceedings in this case began this summer.

Russia's state news agency has reported that the perpetrators of last year's deadly attack on the Crocus City Hall on the outskirts of Moscow had undergone military and specialized training outside of Russia, including in Turkey and Afghanistan, and possessed professional skills in the use of weapons.
