From drug trafficking to security threats; UN announces technical meeting within Doha process

The objective of this meeting has been stated as creating a space for cooperation and outlining the next steps to combat drug trafficking, financing of illegal activities, terrorism, and other transnational crimes.


The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime announced on its official page on (Monday, 16 Qaws) that this meeting was part of the framework of United Nations dialogues in Doha.


According to this organization, representatives of the Taliban, member countries, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) were present at this meeting.


The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime has emphasized that such meetings help strengthen regional coordination to form a joint response to threats that extend beyond borders; threats that affect both Afghanistan and the surrounding countries.


Although the United Nations has not specified the exact location of this meeting; however, in the images published from this event, the dates of December 1 and 2 (10 and 11 Qaws) are visible.


The Taliban have not yet officially commented on the holding of this meeting.


The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime wrote at the end of its note that the continuation of technical dialogues is essential for maintaining communication channels with the Taliban and also for expanding regional cooperation against organized crime networks.

In the continuation of the Doha process-related meetings, representatives of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime have held a technical meeting with a number of Taliban officials and delegations from several member countries.
