Red Cross says 136,000 people face severe food crisis

According to a report published on Thursday, the 10th of Thawr, approximately 136,000 people in the Kamdesh and Barg-e-Matal districts of Nuristan province are confronting a serious food crisis and a lack of access to basic services.


The organization has emphasized that, after conducting extensive discussions with the involved parties, emergency relief operations have begun for approximately 17,000 affected families.


The report states that these two districts, due to the conflicts and tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan, had been placed in complete isolation for a period, and their residents have been severely impacted by this situation.


The Red Cross has also stated that, since early April, it has entered into negotiations with all relevant parties to ensure the safe passage of aid convoys. Meanwhile, some observers consider the restrictions imposed by the Taliban—particularly on the activities of female aid workers—to be among the factors exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan's remote areas.

The International Committee of the Red Cross has announced that, following the escalation of tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan in mid-February and the closure of routes for about two months, tens of thousands of people in Afghanistan are facing severe shortages of food supplies.
