After a woman's physical assault; Massive protest in Yaftel met with Taliban gunfire

According to local sources, Taliban forces opened fire to disperse the protesters. Residents say the shooting resulted in casualties; however, the exact number of deaths and injuries has not yet been determined. Videos circulating from the scene also capture the sound of gunfire and the transport of the wounded.

According to the protesters, pressure on the people of Yaftali Payan has intensified in recent weeks, with the Taliban deploying large numbers of forces in the district and carrying out arbitrary detentions, house-to-house searches, and creating an atmosphere of intimidation.

Residents say this pressure escalated after the early morning of Friday, July 16, when a newly formed anti-Taliban group known as the "Homeland Soldiers' Front" briefly seized control of Yaftali Payan district for several hours. Members of the front disarmed Taliban forces, raised their flag over government buildings, and then withdrew from the area.

Following this incident, the Taliban dispatched a large number of their forces to Yaftali Payan and launched extensive search and arrest operations. Local residents say that in recent days, there has also been an increase in cases of beatings, insults, and harassment of the people.

The protesters say that during the Taliban shooting, at least three people were killed and several others wounded. They also demanded the withdrawal of "non-native Taliban" from Badakhshan province.

Badakhshan has witnessed an increase in security tensions in recent weeks. A few days after the Yaftali Payan incident, the Freedom Front engaged in direct clashes with the Taliban in Zibak district. The Resistance Front, led by Ahmad Massoud, also announced that in recent days it had killed a Taliban member in Kuran wa Munjan district.

In addition to the activities of anti-Taliban fronts, the Taliban are facing internal disputes and attacks by ISIS-Khorasan. Four days ago, on August 2, Zabihullah Amiri, the head of information and culture for Badakhshan province, was killed in an attack by armed individuals in Baharak district. ISIS-Khorasan claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement.

Residents of Yaftali Payan district in Badakhshan province took to the streets in protest on Saturday (August 1) following a body search of a woman by Taliban forces in the district's market. The protesters also criticized what they described as harassment, arbitrary detentions, house-to-house searches, and humiliating behavior by the Taliban toward the local population.
