Local radio station manager in Logar released from Taliban prison after 15 days of detention

This organization states that while he has been freed, at least five other journalists and media workers remain in detention, with no clear information available about their status.


The organization stated in a press release on Wednesday, May 6, that based on reports received, during the detention of journalists, some are subjected to forced confessions. This organization has strongly condemned this practice and emphasized that such confessions hold no legal or ethical validity.


Just one day after the news of Farhad Ghafoori's detention was published, the Taliban released him. At the same time, a video of him was released that appears to have been recorded under duress. In this video, Ghafoori explains that he had not gone there for media activities or to contact security institutions, but rather to pursue a legal matter at the police headquarters and court.


Nevertheless, Taliban officials have so far provided no official explanation regarding the reason for his detention and subsequent release.


The Afghanistan Media Support Organization had previously stated that no legal document or clear judicial order was presented for Farhad Ghafoori's detention.
