Pakistani airstrikes; Taliban report killing 9 civilians in Kunar and Helmand

In Helmand, the Taliban governor's office stated that an airstrike occurred around 3:30 a.m. in the Safar area of Garmser district, resulting in the destruction of two residential homes. According to this report, four civilians were killed in the incident and six others wounded.


Reports from local Taliban officials in Kunar province also indicate that a residential home in Shultan district was struck. They say the attack left five dead and three wounded. Zabihullah Mujahid has strongly condemned the strikes, describing them as a "crime" and "aggression" that violates international principles.


In response, Islamabad has confirmed the airstrikes inside Afghanistan. Pakistan's Ministry of Information, in a statement released early Thursday morning, said the operation was part of a military campaign known as "Wrath of the Righteous" and was carried out based on precise and pre-planned intelligence.


Pakistan's Ministry of Information claims that its forces targeted camps and hideouts linked to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and Baloch militant groups at two locations inside Afghanistan. According to Islamabad's claims, the strikes killed 22 "terrorists" and destroyed a significant amount of weapons and ammunition. Pakistan has also stated that it will continue its counterterrorism operations to counter threats. The country had previously reported airstrikes in areas of Kandahar, Khost, and Paktia.



Taliban officials have announced that Pakistani fighter jets targeted several locations in Afghanistan's Kunar and Helmand provinces with airstrikes in the early hours of Thursday, 9 Miizan. According to Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, residential areas in the Shultan and Chugai districts of Kunar, as well as the Garmser district of Helmand, were hit in these attacks. The Taliban say that in total, 9 civilians, including women and children, were killed and 11 others wounded.
