US:16 out of 90 women jailed in northern Afghanistan have become pregnant after Taliban rape.

Taliban prison guards in Jawzjan, Faryab and Samangan have sexually assaulted women prisoners on May 14, 2023, the State Department said, citing a report by the 8 a.m. newspaper.

According to the report, women prisoners have been forced to have abortions because of repeated rapes by Taliban members in northern Afghanistan.

According to the US State Department، the Taliban ordered the termination of the pregnancies of women in the third and fifth months.


The State Department report also said the Taliban had no system to protect victims of sexual assault and provided limited protection services in 2023.

In the past year, the Taliban took 48 women who fell ill due to sexual assault and heavy bleeding to hospitals in Faryab, Samangan and Jowzjan, the report said.

The State Department also reported forced child marriage, discrimination against women, child exchange, lack of access to health care, and honor killings in Afghanistan in 2023.

The report said the rate of contraception among married women in urban areas was 35 percent, compared with 19 percent in rural areas.

According to the report, women in Afghanistan have difficulty entering health centers if they do not have a Muharram.

In its annual report on the situation of human rights، the State Department said 16 out of 90 women imprisoned in Jawzjan، Faryab and Samangan had become pregnant after the Taliban rape. The Taliban executed at least four women in Samangan after repeatedly raping their members. The State Department recently released its annual report on the human rights situation in a number of countries، including Afghanistan، in 2023.
