Following the earthquake in Herat province, political figures both inside and outside the nation published statements to express their sorrow to the local populace.

The fleeing vice president, Amrullah Saleh, sympathized with the citizens of Herat and urged them to stand up once more in opposition to the Taliban during this period.

In response to Mr. Saleh's remark, other social media users wrote the saying "Goat dies in grief, butcher in grief" and labeled him an opportunist.
