Texas City Celebrates Ahmad Shah Massoud Day on September 9th

The municipality of “McKenney” city in the state of Texas, USA, has named September 9 as “Ahmad Shah Masoud” day in honor of the national hero of Afghanistan. 


Ahmad Shah Massoud was a powerful guerrilla commander during the resistance against the Soviet occupation between 1979 and 1989. He was also the general commander of the United Front against the Taliban group. 


Massoud was killed on September 9, 2001 in a terrorist attack planned by the Al-Qaeda network in Khawaja Bahauddin Takhar district.


Mayor McKenney mentioned Massoud’s battles against terrorists in a letter. 


Before this, a number of countries and writers have praised the achievements and struggles of the national hero in different ways.
